When it comes to colours, most people keep Christmas classic. Red and green the go-to, white and gold the chic alternative. But those pairings have held the decoration crown for too long. It’s time to shake up the bauble box and let all the shades shine. For your festive colour scheme this year, more is most definitely merrier.

The tree of many colours
It’s the focal point of festivities so don’t be shy, festoon it with all you’ve got. The palette is all the colours, the style is everything you can get your hands on. Illuminate the room in the sparkle of a hundred different-hued decorations. And rather than buying a shedload of new ornaments, buying second hand online or in charity shops is the more sustainable option.

Polychromatic presents
Yes, gifts come in every shade but aren’t the ones that come in the flashiest of colours the most fun to open? A beautiful notebook or diary will lift the spirits of whoever opens it throughout the year. And remember to delight them at first sight with the brightest of ribbons and wrapping papers.

Felt tip festive greetings
When you’re writing your Christmas cards, put down the biro and pick up the fine line felt tip pens. You’re going to send rainbow well-wishes. And don’t be afraid to doodle. A star, a tree, some mistletoe, whatever you think will raise a smile. Just as long as it’s not in black or blue.

A chromatic Christmas dinner
For the big set-piece, lay it all out on the table. We don’t mean going in on your step-mum for the remark she made about the seating plan at your wedding but rather going big, jazzy and kaleidoscopic on the decorations.

Set a vibrant mood with multi-hued glassware, plates and decs. Scatter spare baubles on the table for extra sparkle, scoop up some sweets into bowls and tie bright napkins with even brighter ribbons. While candles of every colour in tinted glass candlestick holders make fun and standout features.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match your place names and menus. Might we suggest Matilda Goad’s Scallop Border design paired with some of Matthew Williamson’s Electro Leopard place cards? Go wild, it is Christmas after all.
