Made with Love: Behind Our Wedding Designs

Our wedding invitations are made with one thing in mind – love. From sourcing inspiration to sketching the seeds of our ideas and finessing the final colors – it’s a passion project from start to finish. We sat down with our designer Beth (who’s sadly just left us for pastures green in Devon – we miss you, Beth!) to share how her designs are brought to life for your big (or little) day.

Come & chat with Beth...

What do you love most about working on wedding designs?
I love the craft that goes into designing our wedding invitations, from sketching initial ideas by hand, to creating illustrations with pens or watercolors.

Tell us about the Monogram Crest design.
I started by looking at traditional crest shapes and different types of foliage, with a focus on small floral elements or berries to create a classic feel. Once we were happy with the concept, I sketched out foliage elements, starting with pencil and then using a fine black pen.

What’s your favorite part of the design process?
I really enjoy the concepting stage which is where we pull together moodboards with imagery, color and sketches.

How long does it typically take you to take a wedding invitation design from start to finish?
It depends on the design! Once the concept has been approved by relevant teams, it takes around a day to create the illustrations, layout and typography for the invitation suite. We then take these elements and create the full range of wedding essentials, including items like a menu and place card, which takes another few days.

What’s the story behind the Olive Sprig suite?
For this suite I wanted to create a classic design with a delicate piece of greenery. I chose an olive sprig because the leaves have an elegant shape and color, and it's also a symbol of peace.

Do you have a couple, venue or location pictured in your mind when designing invitations?
I often do! For the Olive Sprig design my moodboard included a minimal white wedding cake in a beautiful Santorini wedding and sage green bridesmaid dresses. Visualizing this bigger picture helps me to imagine how each invitation will fit into a couple’s wedding.
