What made you want to be a photographer?
Telling stories through imagery.
Describe good photography in three words.
Inspiring. Singular. Effective.
What's the secret to taking photos of other people?
Having a conversation with your subject and entering a level of personal depth.
What inspires your photography?
Modern and contemporary art. Seeking specific tones and direction of the light source can be informed through the great masters of painting.
Having grown up in the suburbs of Paris, an urban environment is also a meaningful source of inspiration. It brings specific cultural elements of a lifestyle, such as how a community behaves and reacts to their surroundings.
What’s your top tip for amateur photographers?
Keep momentum. Understand what it is you like shooting. Shoot it relentlessly.
Digital vs analogue?
I use both! I introduced the idea of using the analogue format whilst developing visuals for our travel journals. The analogue feel gave a documentary look, and our digital designers used these shots to create inside pages stories. For instance, photo books came to life with real holiday memories, captured on the streets of Barcelona.
Why is it important to print your photos?
To keep a short selection of your most favourite times spent out there. No one will stop and look at their phone thinking, “Oh hey, let’s look at last year's summer holiday.” However, someone could look at your side table and grab a photo book to contemplate these captured memories. Printing is an invitation to the eye.
Do you have any wedding photography advice?
Know the couple. Know what and who they want to remember. Be invisible, but joyful when interacting with invitees. Don’t limit yourself on what to capture, unless stipulated otherwise.
